*All fields must be filledHave you ever thought about what happens to those long cables and wires you have been throwing away? It’s most likely that they are laying in a landfill somewhere if they were not recycled properly.
This is why wire recycling and other types of recycling have been strongly recommended by many environmental organizations. In this movement to become more sustainable, there are three R’s to always keep in mind. They mean to reduce the amount of waste, reuse as much as possible, and recycle unused or obsolete items in your home.
It will not only help you dispose of your waste properly but it allows you to contribute to the following:
Less harmful gas emission: in the actual refining of copper from the mines, a lot of harmful gases are produced such as sulfur dioxide, which can be very toxic to the environment. By recycling your old wires, you'll be reducing the amount of waste produced in landfills as well as the emission of harmful gases.
Save a great amount of energy: extracting copper ore from mines requires a tremendous amount of energy. On the other hand, recycling copper needs about 10% less energy compared to extraction. This means you are contributing to the significant conservation of valuable reserves of fossil fuels while reducing CO2 emissions.
Make the costs cheaper: apart from using less energy when recycling copper, it is also a lot cheaper and more economical to recycle old copper wires than mine and extract copper ore. In fact, wire recycling or recycling copper is equivalent to about 90% of the cost needed to extract original copper. It also makes the cost of products made from recycled copper a lot cheaper.
