The Importance of Nickel Titanium Alloys for Metal Recycling
The Importance of Nickel Titanium Alloys for Metal Recycling
June 18, 2021

Unlike other waste materials, recyclable metals are highly valued and productive for the economy. Metal recycling has become a crucial sector, not just because of the good it does for environment, but because it provides industries with cheap, high quality materials. In fact, the business of collecting, sorting, and recycling scrap metals provides employment for many people and offers great economic significance to the country, at the level of the industries of mining and refining ores. This is also dependent on the kinds of metals recycled, with nickel titanium alloys being one of the most prolific.

Nickel titanium alloys are particularly efficient, known for their many beneficial properties when recycled.

Nickel and metal alloys containing nickel can be reprocessed to bring them back to their original state or be turned into a different form that’s still equally valuable. For instance, stainless steel scraps that contain nickel titanium alloys can be recycled into a new stainless steel product. The nickel itself from batteries can be used as raw material for nickel-containing stainless steel products. To be specific, 68% of all nickel found in consumer products is recycled and starts another life cycle, with 15% of this nickel recycling going into the carbon steel loop. However, there’s still some percentage that goes into landfills, specifically the kind of nickel that is found in waste electrical devices and electronic machines.

Nickel titanium alloy recycling and other metal recycling play a very important role in the overall metal industry. Recycling ability is a significant factor in the life cycle of a metal, greatly contributing to global sustainability and its worth as a material. This is particularly true in the case of nickel recycling of products like stainless steel which are very durable and specially designed for long-term use. This is why the demand for recycled nickel and nickel-containing products has been increasing and become part of the solution to global warming.
